2148 - White Linen in Norfolk

Can country ever really be cool? Kate Knapp says “we don’t do twee.” She and her husband James Knapp, live in a small cottage in Cley, near Holt, on the Norfolk coast. A lightening overhaul of a 19th century building that was once possibly a haystore. Both Kate and James worked for Mary Fox Linton (the designer responsible for One Aldwych Hotel) before starting their own company, Knapp Design. Normally they would use silks and suedes to add a touch of luxury, though here, at home in the country, the Knapps have concentrated almost exclusively on fresh, clean, off-white linens: 'It provides an almost ethereal feel to the space,’ explains Kate, and makes the best of the small spaces (the living room is barely 3.5 metres square).
