2378 - Rensch Nico

A traditional Victorian country house is not the natural habitat for an architect and interior designer who has built up an international reputation for designing flawlessly modern buildings. Yet even as the gates swing open to Nico Rensch's home, revealing a gravelled drive leading to a red brick house, there are clues that while the architecture is ubiquitous the design is not. The moment you step inside you are in a purist's dream: floors are Spanish limestone, walls are white, every window is shuttered with walnut blinds and colours are limited to anything which comes under the heading pebble. Yet for all that, this remains a practical and comfortable family home for Nico, his wife Jane and their two young children. Writer helenchislett@btinternet.com
