When you are leaving a house you love, it is never easy to find a replacement. So it was with Sally and Peter Hennessy when they gave up farming four years ago - and with it the large, comfortable farmhouse where their four children had grown up. Sally estimates they viewed 150 houses over a year, seeing three to four a week on average, before happening on this converted Cotswolds barn: ³It was my birthday, so it was a good day anyway, and it just felt right the moment we walked in². Only one of the Hennessys¹ four children was still living at home, but all of them had the same request: that the house was big enough for the farmhouse kitchen table and a much-loved Regency bookcase. The latter was achieved by sealing off double doors between the drawing and sitting rooms; the second involved converting the garage into a spacious kitchen. Not that Sally minded: ³The house was lovely when we bought it, but everyone has their own ideas and we did change it around quite a lot. I really wanted another large kitchen with the table in the middle. After all, with the children, their partners and two grand-children, there are 12 of us to seat for a family meal².
