Situated on the outskirts of the small industrial town of Charleroi, in Belgium’s coal mining ‘Pays Noir’ this long, low, angular house has long been regarded as an oddity by conservative locals, although admired by architects and design aficionados from further a field . Built in 1964 by a local architect who was much influenced by Le Corbusier and Scandinavian designers of the late fifties the house is now lived in by his artist son and family who have made careful adaptations to modern life and furnished with some of the best elements of contemporary European design.
