When Gili Rosenheimer bought a listed flat with no front door, his indigenous solution was typical of his cool and contemporary taste. The Israeli property investor, who has lived in London for 15 years, is interested only in projects that offer a challenge, and this one ticked the box – in spades. The minute he set eyes on the puce walls, mud-brown woodwork and other more serious obstacles of the partly derelict apartment, a mental picture of what might be achieved slowly started to unfold. “The paint job was the least of the problems,” he explains. “Essentially, the flat – which fills the top two floors of the building – was not self-contained. It had no front door, and has never had one.” The building which had been granted listed status made any structural changes impossible. Rosenheimer, however, hired an architect and determined to transform the space into a stylish home. Writer Vinny Lee - vinnylee@btinternet.com
