3895 - An integral element

12 images

Christina and Frederik Ottesen spent a lot of time thinking through their new dream kitchen for their Danish apartment in Hellerup. They extended into the ceiling to create a large living room with slanted walls, lots of light, an open kitchen, living room and two wonderful balconies overlooking Ordrup. Enlisting help from interior designers Function it was important that the kitchen appeared to be an integral element in the apartment. Every detail and care was taken to get combined light, aesthetics and functionality, so the whole family could use the kitchen together. It was agreed very early on that the kitchen should be of materials with certain heaviness in texture and colour as a contrast to the large, bright room. The natural and beautiful black granite was selected for the worktop with a frosted surface, in interaction with kitchen cabinets of cherry wood; which gives warmth in contrast to the hard black granite. But this contrasting combination is attractive in the white room, flooded with natural light from large windows and balcony doors; creating a nice balance when the contrast is so eye-catching.
