4262 - Enjoying the family meal

They wanted the whole family gathered around the table every day, both for breakfast and early evening dinners. These mealtimes are were and when they sit down properly and talk.. So, they decided to put some extra effort into making the kitchen really nice when the family of five moved into a 100 year old apartment in Oslo! The previous owner had already 'moved' the small kitchen from the far back of the apartment, facing a dark yard, onto the sunny side and into a bigger space. This was vital to the following decisions being made. Seeing as the room was so big, the owners allowed themselves to be a bit theatrical and fill the space with unusual choices, such as a dark brown ceiling and Morrocan tiles being just that wee bit too loud as they are coming up from the floor in all their black and white grandeur.. Still, they wanted to keep it 'down' so they kept the sleek standardised white HTH kitchen units and stone work-top. The walls were painted in Farrow and Ball's Pavillion Gray, and shelves were built and painted the same. As the Scandinavian couple like their continental dining habits, they also opted for a black and white photograph shot by Lee Miller in Mougins 1937, depicting Paul Eluard and his wife Nusch, Man Ray with girlfriend Ady and Roland Penrose,- all sharing a picnic hamper in the French landscape at Picassos house.
